About the Alumni Association

Mission Statement

To perpetuate the memory and spirit and keep alive the ideals and traditions of St. James High School.

To support secondary Catholic education within the Archdiocese of Philadelphia through our scholarship program.

Membership in the Alumni Association now stands at nearly 1,500 active members.  Membership contributions and Alumni Association fund raising events and programs help to provide for continuing membership communications and services as well as Scholarship Fund growth.

Each year the Alumni Association seeks out deserving young men and women in need of financial assistance and provides them with a four year scholarship to one of our Archdiocesan High Schools.  This enables these students to receive a quality Catholic education.  An education of Christian and moral values, coupled with a strong academic and disciplined environment.  Currently the Alumni Association is supporting 23 students at Cardinal O'Hara, Monsignor Bonner, Archbishop Prendergast and West Catholic High Schools.  And with the awarding of our scholarships for the 2008 - 2009 school year, the Alumni Association will exceed $380,000. in assistance to this program since the closing of our beloved school in 1993.  An accomplishment we can all be very proud of achieving.

In addition to our scholarship program, the Alumni Association makes an annual contribution to the Francis and Agnes Brennan Scholarship Fund at St. Charles Seminary in Wynnewood and provides an annual grant through the Todd Manga '78 Foundation for Non Violence to a high school senior pursuing a career in criminal justice.  Many other local charities such as Catholic Social Services, The Missionaries of Charity, The Bernadine Sisters, The Salvation Army and City Team ministries also receive annual support from the Alumni Association through our Varsity Club II program.

All in all, we can be very proud of what we have accomplished since the closing of St. James, and with your help and support we will continue to maintain our mission to perpetuate the memory and spirit and keep alive the ideals and traditons instilled in each and everyone of us at St. James.
